I need help with my tattoo!!??!?!?

I just got a tattoo on my back and I went to a legit tattoo shop. They told me to use a very thin layer of neosporin the first few days, although many people say not to use neosporin. My tattoo is black with no color so will it be fine? They wouldn't tell me to use neosporin if it was bad for my tattoo right? I have been applying the thin layer of neosporin but at night when i woke up the imprint of my tattoo was on my sheets in black. Does this mean that it is wearing off?>???

You're fine, don't panic. Some of the color may bleed a bit and I usually lose the top layer of my tattoo as it's healing anyway.

You're right that neosporin typically isn't advised anymore. The instructions I got for my last 2 were remove the bandage after a couple of hours, wash gently with antibacterial soap to remove the "goo" they'd put on it when I left the shop, then apply a fragrance free, lanolin free, alcohol free lotion (such as Lubriderm) several times a day to keep it moisturized.

You might want to sleep in an old t-shirt until it heals (shouldn't take more than a week or so) as it's easier to wash the shirt than to strip your bed and wash the sheets every time ink or sloughed off skin gets on the bed.

When they say "a thin layer" they mean you should massage it in. If you have a layer of Neosporin just sitting on your skin you are going to smother your tattoo and screw it up.

Whatever ointment a tattoo artist tells you to use should be applied to your tattoo, gently massaged into the skin and then after a few minutes you should blot off the excess with a clean paper towel.

The reason people are advised against using ointments like Neosporin is because people usually put on way too much and ruin their tattoos.

No it's not wearing off. You only saw it on your sheets because anything you put on it will cause this, it's completely normal. However I use A&D ointment instead. Over the next few days your tattoo will go thru the peeling and and shedding phase, again this is normal. After about two weeks it will look and feel normal.

Don't worry, that's normal. Its just the excess ink rubbing off onto your sheets, the other ink is still safely inside you skin. Keep looking after your tattoo and it will look great for years to come.

i have six tattoos, all have left an imprint on the sheet the night that i have gotten them, i have no idea what neosporin is (im from the uk) i find that if i just avoid getting the area wet they heal within a week x

I don't think that it is wearing off. I would call the tattoo place and ask them, about what is happening when you put the neosporin on your tattoo.
